New Releases: What upcoming games are you looking forward to?
I have always been a fan of shmup-type games, particularly top-down, as opposed to the standard scrollers. Add customizable ships, lots of tech upgrades, random and variable galaxy sizes. quests, and rpg-like advancement system with tech upgrades, and I'm pretty much guaranteed to spend lots of waking hours on it. Having gorgeous graphics, well-placed humour, and simple controls further send me into excited gigglefits as I plot my advancement through the galaxy.
The next thing I love about this game is the strategy involved. I have several schematics saved for handling different situations. One most certainly could attempt to just get the best stuff and blast their way through, but some things allow the task to be easier than others and with a wide variety of options and how you spend your upgrade points, these certainly factor into to how you play the game. Being able to go wherever I want and think about my choices and how Im going blast my enemies to bits makes this more enjoyable than collecting power-ups and mindlessly blasting foes. You've got factions to deal with, too. These factions are who you buy stuff from. Get the wrong ones angry, and you'll spend some time grinding their relations back up so can get what you need. This element adds to the strategy, too. I -really- enjoy this game.
